Well done, everyone!
The automated patron counter at the library clocked more than 400 visitors during our open house April 24th! As anticipated, the Republic Truck talk by Joe Butcher and the library history slideshow were big draws. Joe gave a fun and fascinating account of his adventures collecting and restoring Republic trucks. He was joined by local resident Erin Harrier, who provided great historical context on the importance of the Republic Truck company to Alma's growth. The three restored Republic Trucks Joe brought to the library were also a big hit.
The bar was set pretty high for next year's open house, but we already have some good ideas that we'll be discussing at future meetings.
Pull up a chair and have a seat
Yes, at long last the six chairs the Alma Library Friends purchased for the library (with the help of a generous donation from Arlene Nyman) are here. Two each are at the front and the back of the fireplace. The other two are in the Genealogy Room. And they are very comfortable. If you haven't seen them yet, be sure to try them out the next time you're at the library.
Special guest for our May meeting
Morgan Most, Alma's new Parks and Recreation Coordinator, is stopping by to talk to us about her role. In addition to her focus on city parks, Morgan will also be helping with the library programs and events. Please come to welcome her, and do a little brainstorming on ways we can work together.
Just give me a sign
If you have a "We Love the Alma Library" sign, you can return it to the library now, or you can let me know that you'd like it picked up, or you can keep it and use it again next year. The choice is yours. Just reply to this email or give me a call (989-620-0272) if you need your sign picked up.
Library Friends Website Update
Last month I mentioned that we've been working on an Alma Library Friends website, and I said that if all goes well, we'd have a preview for your feedback at the May meeting. Well, things did not go as quickly as I anticipated. I'm not a regular traveler on the sunny side of the street, yet somehow I am always optimistic in estimating how long something will take to accomplish. And almost always incorrect.
So, watch this space for a revised show and tell date on the website, which will come in the fullness of time.
Meeting time change?
Most people who responded to my query in the last newsletter about changing our meeting time indicated they were flexible on the time. However, before we make a change, I'd like to discuss it and vote yay or nay as a group. For the May meeting, we'll meet at our usual day and time, which is Thursday, May 23rd at 5:30 p.m. at the library. If you can't attend the meeting but want to weigh in on a possible time change, just let me know beforehand, thanks!
That's it for now,
Susan
